My perspective ...

Since people bring their smartphone with them far more often than they bring their gaming system there is an increase in the opportunity for people to play games; and this will lead to growth in the gaming market.

At the same time, the user interface and business model of a dedicated gaming system offers a significantly better gaming experience and people will probably continue to use it in the same situations as they were before. On top of this, there is still the opportunity to grow the portable gaming system in areas that have not been captured by either handheld gaming systems or smartphones.

Or to put it another way, in 6/7 years (when Sony and Nintendo are announcing their next generation handhelds) I wouldn't be surprised to see that the handheld gaming market had grown by 25%, most analysts to dismiss this growth because no one could have predicted the appeal of these handheld systems with a particular untapped market, and the prediction will be that the iPhone 17 will kill the handheld gaming market.
