i would assume its something that will be used on their next gen console also. they need a better disk format and it would hurt them quite a bit to have to pay sony bluray royalties. seems like they want to start using proprietary disks like nintendo has been.

i can see why they dont want to bite the bullet and pay royalties, but it'll be difficult to be the center of the living room if you cant play movies and bluray is where movies are headed.

oh for pity sake... not this again!!

what? lol

The old....

Sony owns blu-ray bull.

I know you havent been here that long but it took a while to stop this myth popping up all the time.

Sony is a part of the blu-ray consortium and so receives a portion of the royalties along with a lot of other companies.

ya i know this lol, it was made by like 9 or 10 companies, but that doesnt change that sony could outprice microsoft on one of the more expensive components.

right now microsoft is using sony developed (in part i think it was two or three companies altogether) dvds, but they can still outprice sony in the optical department because its old, cheap tech. bluray is not old or cheap.

if microsoft doesnt create a proprietary disc format theyre gonna be at a loss next gen. or do you have reason to believe otherwise?
