Can someone explain what is sony's reward program?

Essentially its getting free things like Avatars and Themes for doing stuff on the PSN and your PS3.  Like going on Home, playing games, buying things from the PS Store, getting specific trophies for certain games.  There were 3 levels for the rewards,  and you got more stuff at each level.  

I was in the Beta

so why was it cancelled I wonder if its that straight forward?

Well the email I got about it said nothing about it being canceled,  it sounded like it was just being delayed.   Here it is:
