I disagree on there being two separate kinds of gamers, PC and console. I was, and still am a PC gamer, but got sick and tired of installing games, checking forums to find out why: the sound didn't work/ game crashes/ update video sound driver/update sound card driver bullshit. It's hard for me to adjust to using a joystick, and I still wonder why in the hell they don't slap a marble mouse on a controller for aiming. I use a marble mouse on my pc, it works great.

PC gamers in general have much higher standards for games than do console gamers. You just have to look at the distribution of scores of games now with the year 2000, and it will be plain as day.

If anything, i'd say it was more... different standards then higher standards.

Things like Mods and digital distribution means games have a longer shelf life.  People actually care less about graphics even though games can push graphics better... as people will usually crank down the graphics to get extra preformance... and old classics stick around.

So things are more gameplay focused.  It's not "Mario Kart Double Dash is good, the others better, but this one is a worthy followup."

It's... "Why would I play Mario Kart 64... when the others are way  bette?  Also Pac-man and Sonic are playable now thanks to modders... along with new tracks."
