Not just that; piracy often has the effect of making people interested in something, and causes them to buy the real thing, or sequel. Additionaly, there are many people who only buy a system once it's been hacked. So as long as the hardware isn't sold at a loss, companies profit from this. And even if they pirate most of their games, they do buy an occasional title.
Something to ponder: Software sales haven't dropped at all since PS3 was jailbroken 7 months ago. On the contrary. Hard- and software sales have increased. Please explain this.
