I liked the emotional war game idea as well. It could start out as him being a soldier and doing the normal things that would come with the territory. But then he is asked to do some really terrible things, the kind of things that would really mess with a persons head. But there would be a choice whether he did or didn't and let say he didn't and then horrible things would happen to his squad and he would be the only survivor. Either way he would be a psychological mess. And then the real story begins with him taking these horrors back with him to a normal civilian life. I don't know where I would take it from there but that's a start that I imagine could be really good if fleshed out by real writers.
