Kinect is basically an upgrade to the 360 without launching a new console. Keep extending the 360s life span until 2015/16. Maybe launch next XBox in 2014. Cash in with Kinect with cheap games with low development costs and grow the casual gamer market for 360 to boost its overall install base. Casual gamers will eventually move onto more of the nardcore games available on the 360.
XBox 360 will have a 10 year product lifespan from launch in 2005 to 2015/16.
360 is going strong with 50 million console units sold and around 1 billion software and accessory units sold worldwide. 5 more years to go of the 360s lifespan.
