Why not? Better effects, even at a lower resolution, I'd take the better effects. Suppose that's the case, it can just be as ugly all around.

How can one side argue for a better "technical" experience if the experience is of a lower resolution than it's counterpart on the competing system?
Take GTA IV as an example. There were individual areas where the PS3 was ahead, but in the total package, it was considered the inferior version of the two because it had a lower resolution in addition to other drawbacks.

If you play on a tiny tv resolution doesn't matter very much.

well i have a 73" DLP so i think i win.
but i dont think we have confirmation that xbox is in HD (by the way what constitutes full 720p, i know 1080p is 1920x1080) but even if the ps3 version was at the resolution you said and the xbox was 720p, they would be sooo close in res, i dont think it matters.
also about gta, i thought xbox hadd some better aspects, and ps3 had some stuff better too, but it was basically a tie. maybe im misremembering
