Blu-ray is slowly gaining ground. The recession hasn't helped much in the adoption of a new format but it still shows healthy growth and should only get better with more 1080p tvs in homes.
Screen sizes keep getting bigger, the advantage of blu-ray will only become more noticeable. When I bought my tv 5 years ago I had to place a special order to get the 52 inch version. Now when I walk into the shop there's a whole selection of 55 inch and 60 inch flatscreens in stock for less then half the price.
The ps3 makes a profit now and has everything going for it to make the losses back. I know that when I want a blu-ray player for the bedroom I'll end up buying another ps3 instead of a standalone player.
