it's not like there weren't trophies and stuff in games before, it's just it was in the game itself now it's standard and I like it, it's something more to shoot for in the game, Mirror's Edge esepcially benifited from throphies I admit alot of them phone it in but some it really does add to the game, though I don't see why you can't turn off notifications for those who think otherwise
