There exist a study that debunk your point but I am too lazy to look for it.
Surprisingly, people do like to own stuff. Buying instead of getting it free makes the buyer enjoy the said item more. It's perception value. But this is the tricky part. You'll have to price the item accordingly and avoid over/underpricing.
Services like iTunes makes a killing on music sales. Why are people paying for the music when they can just download free?
