I got a Captivate back in September and it has always given me problems. The phone after a while would get really slow, sometimes apps force close and the GPS doesn't even work right.

Not even the wonderful Odin3 flasher can seem to fix it (Even though I still have access to download mode) because it seems the failed update messed up one of my files and now it can't write it to my phone (Sbl.bin).
AT&T tells me that I am pretty much shit out of luck and to get another phone it will cost me about $400.
This is absolute fucking bullshit.
Update : Not even emergenecy recovery with Samsung Kies will get past 0%...

1. Call Samsung and cuss their a**es out.
2. Go to an At&t store and ask the guy in there to test the update on the computer
3. Sell the phone and get another to activate it on At&t (They may charge you extra)

They can update in store even on bricked phones?

They should be able to because it was their faults it was bricked. Either way it goes you deserve a refund.
