The console overheat - i'm guessing that stuff that came out was thermal paste, which is deigned to prevent components (i think the CPU) from overheating.

makes sense that it would stop working afterwards, it gets too hot too quickly so it can't startup.

however this dosent identify why it happened. i'm guessing you were playing for a very long time - or its just shoddy workmanship - probabily both.
