I've had this problem before. I was confused for a couple of days as well because it had seemed it acknowledged the value of the card just as you mentioned above. Sony told me to go back to the place I bought it & get a refund. It should be possible as well as long as you have the receipt. Basically what happened in my situation is that they never activated the card at the register. The employee at Gamestop was able to tell if the card had been used/activated or not so they knew I wasn't lying and the process was smooth from there. I got my card activated & went on my way.
