Teen could be jailed for 2 years for killing pet hamster

Now I don't think the kid was right. She got in a heated argument with a sibling and killed that siblings pet. The family obviously was pretty mad at her and wanted to set her straight or were just bad parent's trying to pass off their parental duties to the authorities. 2 years is to harsh for something 90% of us will do during our life time (Kill an animal that did no harm to us) infact where do you draw the line, bugs are living creatures with brains and feelings yet we kill thousands of them a year.

Fact of the matter is I think this should have been handled by the parent's, punishment should have been swift maybe a grounding for a few months to a year. But what a waste of tax dollars and time of court officials etc...etc...

Can you honestly tell me you have never killed a single living creature that did nothing to you?

What about that innocent fly that entered your house? Or that innocent mouse? Or farmers what about those innocent crows that just want to eat some berries?

I'm sure if your honest with yourself you are guilty of killing an innocent animal out of anger, fear or just for the fun of it!

I've never intentionally killed an animal. I think people that kill spiders, ants, mice, birds or monkeys out of anger, for entertainement or to satisfy some silly Chinese medicinal superstition, are monsters. The hamster was also the property of the fathers, she stole and killed his property and has to take responsibility for it. Animals that are killed to be consumed are bred for that reason, they are used and are killed for a legitimate reason. They are also not choked to death and then thrown against the wall for no reason at all, only a deeply flawed human being would do that.

Even if I disagree with it, the death of mice is to stop an infestation in your home. The death of a hive of bees is stop them from attacking you in your own backyard. The death of spiders is to stop them from potentially biting you or infesting your home. The death of a caged pet hamster was for no reason at all and I'm glad she is being punished with jail time and I can only hope that animal cruelty laws can be taken more seriously in the future.
