Well if you get technical anyone ones a gamer including those who play real life sports. While my parents and my wife do play some video games in their life time yet I wouldn't call them video gamers. I just assume most here understood what I meant when I said gamers ; you know the one who video gaming is a hobby.
It's the same as I have went fishing every now and again yet I wouldn't call myself a fisherman.
