I'd say put the search weapon in your left hand and switch between your main weapon and wand in your right hand. That should work. Be patient though, it CAN take a while 
EDIT: You increase your chances of a pure bladestone drop by encountering the black skeleton in pure black world tendency, but you probably figured that out already.
