I recommend the Great Gatsby and Lord of the Flies, both old books but they are classics for a reason. The Great Gatsby appears as a love story to begin with but it's more than that, its a critical view on the abandoment of moral in America in the 1920s. Intresting, humourous and very haunting.

Lord of the Flies you should really look up ,and read.

I've been meaning to read The Great Gatsby. Heard that it's an amazing book, though I don't know much abiut the plot, other than the action takes place during the prohibition. It's very short though, so I'll definately pick it up eventually.

I saw a movie adpatation of The Lord of the Flies, and quite frankly it seemed kinda ridiculous to me. Creepy, disturbing, and silly. Didn't like it.

The Cathcer in the Rye is another great Amarican novel. The fact that it's written from the POV of a teenager may help people on this site resonate with the character (even though I hope most won't identify with his whinning).

Yeah I really recommend you read the Great Gatsby. At first I didn't take too it very much but i grew to love it.Without spoling anything I will tell you that it really takes the glamour away from the "roaring twenties" and I actually found it quite sad.

Don't be put off by the movie adaptation of Lord of the Flies. It IS written about young boys (6-10) or something like that age and it does have some childish moments but I think it's message shines through. It basically shows the journey from civilisation into savagery and it can be quite gripping. I would just at least try reading a little bit and see how it goes but each to his own :)

I heard about that book, might find it when I finally finish all my exams. Seems pretty intresting and something relatable

The word "phony" is used quite liberally in The Catcher in the Rye (up to the point it becomes annoying), but it's a great book about teenagers and about growing up. It's definately a great book to read when you're young. Surprisded they didn't make you read it in high school.
