Plus, how many games does the average gamer actually buy? I buy games like a maniac but I still only own a miniscule percent of a game console's library. In the end, does it really matter if Console A has 150 (hypothetical number, btw) exclusives and highly rated games and Console B has 94 exclusives, when in the end you only buy 7 exclusives and 20 multi-plats? |
Yes of course it matters... it matters which of the exclusives are more important to you.
Hence my own belief that the Wii library is still superior to PS3 and X360 put together, even if the Wii is now getting jack shit for the future (I have seriously struggled to think of a 5th game for the Most Wanted thread the past couple of months... I think the Grinder is my current choice but unless it really turns out well I doubt I will actually be buying it).
In terms of a console purchase for someone like me who can't afford more than 1 (I think my total spenditure on gaming this gen is about £800*, had I bought 2 of the consoles at launch I would have very little, if any left for games at all) You of course look at the whole library of games, it's usually quite easy to prioritise a few games over others and choose the console which matches them best... generally this would be because of a favoured exclusive library.
* I just worked it out to be £980 on hardware and games give or take £10..... then take off £50 if you want to discount gifts (including free Wii points from stars) and/or add on £25 if you want to include rechargable batteries and an SD card (which were mostly used for the Wii)
