Why I would buy a Mac?
- I prefer the Mac OS and Mac UI over the Windows OS and Windows UI.
- I don't have to worry about virus's, malware or software incompatibilities.
- I prefer a computer that "just works" and requires little to no maintenance.
- I prefer or need to use high end tools like Final Cut Studio that are only available on the Mac
- I feel that the Mac OS is simply a much more stable OS then Windows XP or Vista
- I want to own a machine that has a much longer lifespan and a much better re-sale value
--> Macs maintain a much higher resale value then Windows PCs, just check eBay.
Why I would not buy a Windows PC
- I don't like the Windows OS and Windows UI.
- I don't want to worry about virus's, malware.
--> Macs haven't had any virus or malware problem since OS X was introduced in 2000.
- I don't like worrying that uninstalling software doesn't really uninstall the program.
--> On a Mac, all you have to do is drag the application folder/icon into the trash and empty the trash-- try doing that in Windows. Windows programs have the reputation of never completing uninstalling from your OS.
- I don't like worrying about software incompatibilities breaking the OS or slowing down system performance
--> On a Mac, if a program starts acting funny (its very slow or malfunctions), it does not affect overall system performance or breaks the OS. You either restart the program or delete it. It just seems to me that Windows programs tie themselves a lot closer to the OS and thus you get a lot of degraded system performance over time.
- Fixing a Windows OS problem typically means backing up your data, erasing the hard drive and re-installing the OS.
--> On a Mac I've never had to reformat a hard drive and re-install the Mac OS since OS X was introduced. Mac OS X almost never breaks/corrupts.
Why I would use a Windows PC
- I like building my own computer
--> Its cheaper and easier to upgrade a homemade PC
Myths About the Mac
- Macs are more expensive then PCs.
FALSE: Macs are cheaper or competitively priced to equally specced Dells, HPs and Lenovos. You can buy cheap Dells, but these cheap Dells don't have the same capabilities and quality of components as a typical "overpriced" Mac.
TRUE: Macs are more expensive then homemade PCs but so are Dells, HPs and Lenovos.
- Macs cannot be upgraded.
FALSE: On a Mac Pro you can upgrade the memory, hard drive, video card and it has plenty of internal slots to add more functionality to the machine. I think you can even upgrade the CPU too.
TRUE: You can only really upgrade the memory on an iMac.
- Macs have a lousy selection of games.
FALSE: You can install a copy of Windows on a Mac and play Windows games.
TRUE: There are a lot fewer Mac OS native games then Window OS native games.
