Considering the amount of people that now play in the metro, the buss or anything with their cellphones, I doubt playing with a console in public can be considered geeky... And the blue is definitely not girly, if anything it has character where the black one lacks it, resembling a DS.
If you're afraid of being robbed, get a black one, more conspicuous.
If you're afraid of being girly... don't ask you mom, you're 17 ffs, if all your friends will have a black one, then you're original and at least you'll be able to find yours! If they all have blue ones... well you're just part of the pack.
On NPG... that definitely will not be the same price... Do you prefer DS or PSP? cause if DS then there's no questions, if PSP... the 3DS will get more hard core games than the DS, i'd put it akin to DS/PSP, though the NPG will get more... closer to home consoles.
