Unwinnable in which way?
I will agree that Afghanistan is a lost cause/failed nation and will never (at least not in my lifetime) be a first world democratic nation; but they would be easy as shit to win a full scale war against. If the US armed forces had the full support of the US public and UN to launch a full scale war on Afghanistan they would win in a month.
