I have a different concept of realism stemming from my fandom of RPGs.

Realism in video games stems from a natural extension of reality. For example, the whole Fallout series is realistic because it is conceivable.

Surrealism or Fantasy in video games stems from whatever deluded thoughts the creators thought of and put to pen and paper. For example, the entire JRPG genre and the Final Fantasy series in particular. You have sword and melee characters easily killing enemies who are wielding 12 foot long machine guns and shotguns. Airships, chocobos, dragons, and magic. Not at all real.

As for enjoying one more than the other, it doesn't break down that way because I don't separate games into 2 categories of real and unreal. I enjoy well-made video games with my most favorite being a surreal fantasy MMORPG called the World of Warcraft.
