I think this is getting blown out of proportion. Everytime Sony has come out with a new iteration of their HW for the PS1 and PS2 they changed the HW layout slightly to improve security and make it more difficult to play pirated games. And I highly doubt that Sony would/will be calling this hack-proof. Well, unless they encase it in a steel enclosure that has been welded shut, then have the electronics exposed so when you try to tourch your way through the enclosure it melts them.
