Because the devs said they weren't really going for realism.

They're allowing you to play the game as a full sim. Check at 3:30 in the video.

It seems like they're trying to portray what the drivers "feel" rather than what's actually happening. I get what you're saying though.

I'm not a fan of sims though so..
