I am not sure why the complaints about the story...compared to other FPS (specifically...COD and Battlefield), the story is definitely better or at least more engaging. I can actually follow the story and understand why I am completing a mission and my overall goal for that mission, which isnt always the case in COD or Battlefield.
I think (so far) the gameplay, story, level design, graphics are all better compared to KZ2, COD, or Battlefield. Which makes a really great game.
