Well with the more skills added, and the deeper you get into the game, the strategy increases. You unock tactics slots to set the character's attack styles like.. "If X enemy's health is less than half, use X skill." You can get pretty precise in how you coordinate attacks in that system. Once you advance more into the game you unlock skill and spell traps which also adds to the strategic side of battling.
I think the demo was a very poor showing of the game, it was way too short.

Glad to be of service, it also helps to play on a higher difficulty to force you to be more strategic instead of just running aound killing things with ease.
