noooooooo you'll just ONLY be able to use a product the way it was meant to be used. So when Sony releases a product for a certain purpose it will only ever be used for that purpose. SO terrible XD

Do you really believe that bullshit? That you're not allowed to do what you want to do with the product you own?

i would say the difference is i feel like i own my ps3 but i don't own the firmware.  if sony said i couldn't bedazzle me ps3's case i would be pretty pissed.

..but the firmware these hackers are modifying -- that isn't part of the purchase price.

sony let us use that software (and are also generous enough to give me new additions to the service) for free and in exchange i signed a user agreement that i would not modify the code or by-pass their security measures.

think of it like this -- i have windows on my computer but the couple of bucks i payed for that software license doesn't make me the owner of the windows platform with right to modify and distribute the software as i please...that was not part of the purchase price.
