and that's probably not accurate - btw they ofcourse aren't able to actively ban people as they don't have access to the banlist What they claim to be able to do is change the PS3 ID they use and if they happen to use one that belongs to another user that user's ps3 might get banned from PSN by Sony for using CFW But, a PS3 ID surely consists of 20 or more signs (numbers,letters,..), so there are at least 36(0-9;a-z)^20 possible IDs out of which probably only the 50million shipped PS3s use are unlocked for PSN, so that's 3,74x10^-22 % (0.000...(15 zeros)..000374 %) chance to hit a real one without knowing it before. |
I would imagine getting a console ID isn't actually that hard even with that many out there, I imagine that can be brute forced or faked, the dangerous part is someone simply knowing your PSN ID.
Luckily for the hackers, virtually every gaming forum has a gold mine of people that put their PSN ID in their signatures.
Note that I have no idea if they can actually do this, but the logic does sound right.
- Someone running custom firmware can send whatever they want to the proxy server which sends the information to Sony
- They can change their console and PSN ID
- If they can find a valid console, they can make that their console ID (I have no idea if all values are valid or if only certain ID's work)
- If they can find a valid PSN, they can make that their PSN
- Sony only sees what is sent to them, or the faked PSN and ID.
- When they see these people are using custom formware, they ban the faked console ID and PSN.
