Staying on-topic: yeah, I remember the NeoGeo and its cartridges and I remember paying a lot of money for my first home computers as a kid in '82-'83... in the range of $800 if inflation-adjusted, I guess.

But times have changed and such adjustments don't make sense per se without a context: the perception of price depends a lot on competing offers and value proposition.
