I have noticed quite often that the most informed people in most political discussions tend to be libertarians, and I have wondered whether libertarians tend to put in the effort to inform themselves or if being informed is more likely to make someone a libertarian. Unfortunately, the uninformed masses out number those that bother to inform themselves; and most elections (regardless of whether it is a primary or a general election) tend to become popularity contests. |
I'd say the reason Libertarians tend to be more informed is that its not a de-facto political stance held by most people. You aren't born (politically speaking) a libertarian. It requires an informed judgement to break from the left/right slant, and choose the mixture of socially-moderate to left policies, with the financially-right/extremist policies.
Essentially, you have to know what you believe to shun the typical ideologies.
Back from the dead, I'm afraid.
