It's actually impossible NGP will cost less than 300$, and since the PSP is significantly cheaper than that, it was obvious they would have never discontinued it. But, since PSP is selling not that good, things will get worse after 3DS and NGP launch, so don't expect many units sold in 2012...

Well dropping the PSP to $100 and the PSP Go to $125 would do wonders in keeping it around. Sony could also start pushing the Go more, since it's in a similar situation as the NGP will be. They both don't play UMD's.

Wonders? I don't think the PSP can have a 10 m year even with what you say (which could drastically reduce Sony's profits, and since there'll be a PS3 price cut and they want to sell NGP at loss...). The PSPhone could do relatively better if marketed well.

Sony cut the price of the PS2 and PS3 the same year they launched the Go. So it's a possible. Even if the hardware profits go down, they still have game sales at retail and the PlayStation Store to generate money from.

The NGP will be a money generating powerhouse after a year or two. There isn't much Sony needs to worry about. The PS2 is pure profit and the PSP should be there or pretty close. The PS3 has hit profit and the PSN is expected to hit profit this year as well. Which if Sony ramps up game releases on there (which they will have to for the NGP) that will be easy.

The only problems Sony would need to worry about is if the PSP completely bottoms out (falls below 40k units a week WW) and if Sony can't secure more major exclusives past 2011.

The PS3 price drop will likely happen around the time of another redesign. Something that would lower the cost anyways, plus block any hacking from going on (since Sony should know by now of the only reason the PS3 was hacked in the first place)
