You know almost no country that went in battle in Afganistan won. The entire U.S. intervention in Afghanistan has been a waste of time. Afghanistan is unwinnable and will probably never change.

I disagree, if we had different intentions, the outcome would have been much different. If the war had been a full scale invasion a la Iraq, Afghanistan would have been in a much better position by now.

Well, that's my view.

throughout history afganistan has been the center of many ways. Soviets had an all out attack on Afghanistan but still couldnt win.

It's not like the Mujiadeen were fighting alone.

They had significant financial support from every country not in the soviet block including China, and significant support in training via CIA officers and were given the best weapons the US had at the time.  The Chinese sold them tanks.

Even then, the Soviets could of won.  Gorbachov however pulled out, well... because he was Gorbachov he wanted to ease tensions and the US and China basically made removing forces from Afghanistan a priority.

Afghanistan gets way too much credit for "holding off the russians alone" because nobody wants to shed too much of a light on how much other countries helped out.  Heck, it's ignored that at the same exact time Gorbachov pulled out of OTHER nations who's occupations were going well.

Afghanistan didn't really win so much as the new administration went with a policy shift and they still existed when it happened.

Had the US went all out and took out all the main players, they really would of been fine.  They really were just after Bin Laden though.
