Will definitely be the last Samsung phone I buy. They promised 2.2 before the end of 2010 and here we continue to wait. -__-
Still great for games and emulators though. Probably gonna update to an Xperia Play. I want those buttons.

While not having official releases as promised is definitely troubling, the software can be fixed. The hardware is what's important and the Galaxy S phones are simply the best overall, currently.
I have a superclean rom v1.0 based on a DL30 leak that is Froyo and I have zero lag and its really good. Since the leak was not official it does have a minor bug with large texts that don't get sent to nonVerizon people, but that will be fixed soon as an updated leak comes out or the official update comes out.
There is no way I'd pick any other current phone over my Fascinate. Well, had the EVO been on Verizon, maybe that one.
Now by end of this year when the latest and greatest are out, I'll have to see what's offered, then, but my choice will be similar in style and fully functional with a solid dev base at XDA-Developers website. Looking at the Captivate section of that site, you have plenty of roms to fix your beast.
EDIT: you can get 2.2 according to that site.

I loaded the Froyo rom onto my girlfriend's Captivate and it ended up screwing her 3G. Had to Odin it back to stock yesterday.
I would also think about loading up Cognition right now if I weren't so far into Zenonia 2 right now.
Mobile gaming is great, it really is.

My brother has a captivate and he doesn't do stuff like this. Out of curiousity and our discussion I decided to see what was there and that seredipity rom looks really nice. I might tell him to come over and root/flash it for him.
