I paid £425 too back in 2007! You'll know its gonna YLOD once your screen start to freeze. You will then have a few months before yr phat ps3 dies.

How do you know that? I've had games freeze, but that happened as far back as even 2 years ago

Two years ago it might have been due to poor port? I was playing Demons Souls and the screen started to freeze at some point.  It had never happened before. 4 months later I got YLOD. I got the console repaired locally and didnt lose game saves.
