Why would the success or failure of a game be attributed to a marketing strategy?  It is possible Heavy Rain was unique enough, and caught enough of a buzz on the Internet, it did good sales.

Common sense? Come on, if internet buzz translated to sales, Killzone 2 sales would've been possibly way higher than they are now.

Heavy Rain is in a niche genre, and it needed the marketing. Fortunately, Sony hit it just right.
