I would say that 4-5 points is pretty significant

I don't really consider an 88-89 as "significantly worse" than KZ2. It's irrelevant either way, most people will pick it up and either love it or hate it without the help of reviews and what not.

Besides, it only has one 7/10 thus far. I don't really see "bad scores".

I'm not saying review scores hold any significance, they don't. If anything the scores despite the near consensus that this is a better game than KZ2 show how meaningless they really are.
