@oniyide you are completely ignoring the fact that Resident Evil 4 came out in the Wii first year on the market and was a massive success. Nintendo promised a new way of playing games and here was one of the best games from the previous generation made far superior for core gamers and massively more accessable to the expanded market who will never play a dual analogue 3d shooter by the Wii's unique controls. Of course Capcom and the rest of the third parties have inexplicably never followed this up with a simlar style game. Which leads people to either belive some conspiracy theory or that third parties are just plain stupid.
So when EA comes out and says they have failed on the Wii but they are going to turn things around with massive support and then tout Dead Space as proof, or course everyone thinks it's going to be like RE4. And of course they get pissed off when it's later revealed to be on-rails.
Despite this a lot of people still got excited for the game and were ready to give it a chance. But then the game comes out and they get this:
(hmm can't do a link, just go here for video): http://www.vooks.net/story-18458-.html
This is an on-rails shooter, yet it takes a full 4 minutes before you get to shoot ANYTHING. And then what do you get to shoot? Bolts!
F***king bolts!
Then it's another 5 minutes before you get to shoot anything else, FINALLY an enemy.
On-rails shooters are an ARCADE genre. When people get an on-rails shooter they want action, like Ghost Squad, House of the Dead or Time Crisis. Slow pacing is fine when YOU control the charactrs movement, but when you can't you need action, action, ACTION.
That is why the game failed. And why it pisses people off.
