You need a modern and good computer to run Vista (and even then it's treacle in my experience), and Dell is still selling Pentium 4 machines which were obsoleted the day they were released, so for a person who "just types word [NO BRAND NAMES FOR GENERIC CONCEPTS!] documents, plays games, Writes spreadsheets and surf the net", Linux with Wine is better as it is free, runs on 10 year old hardware with better-than-Vista graphics and runs most older PC games.

I find ubuntu runs slower on my certainly pretty damn old pentium 133 with 128mb of ram than does windows server 2003. Make of that what you will. Linux and windows are both nice. OSX is the spawn of satan.

Also I run open office but I have to say. MS office is, at the moment, just better. At everything. But I have faith!!!

Anyone that has a new computer and says vista runs slow clearly bought a terrible pc.
