Chances are there were, they were just spineless. You got to remember, he would have gladly not got involved if the girl has not been raped, chances are she was about to get raped he was "Fair play, free pr0n" then she shouted out that he's a soldier. His cover is blown, might as well defend himself. Kudos though, taking them on is no small feat, even if you were forced into it lol.
