But if Epic decides to go with a different publisher for future Gear games then those games can go anywhere they want it to go, including the NGP. |
That's incorrect. I'm glad you brought up Gears 3 so that I can elaborate it like this so you guys can understand:
Gears 2 only cost U$12 million to make, so we can safely assume that Gears 3 is in that range as well, but let's be pessimistic and say it cost U$20 million to make. Gears 3 will sell 7-10 million copies alone on the 360, but if it was a multiplatform release from the get go, then we can safely assume a worst case scenario of 2 million on PS3 and 500k on PC. That's the absolute minimum it would do on those platforms if the game released across all platforms at the same time.
So in terms of revenue, and again looking at worst case, unrealistic scenario of Epic making U$10 bucks per game sold during its lifetime, would give them an extra U$25 million in Epic's pocket. Oh, port costs you say? Let's assume another unrealistic scenario of the port costing 1/4 of the total game cost which would be U$5 million (this is unrealistic, Epic doesn't need to license their own engine and they know their engine better than anyone else), this would mean an extra U$20 mil in Epic's pocket. This is the absolute worst case, completely unrealstic, would never happen scenario. Real life scenario is significantly more money.. Do you guys really think MS would pay Epic U$20 million just to keep Gears 3 exclusive on 360? Give me a break.
