I read online that putting new Thermal Paste on the Ps3 processor extends it's longetivity, so I did it on mine. I just want to see if that theory is true, and if you put Thermal Paste on your Ps3, then I'd be sad, since I guess it wouldn't extend the longetivity by much =(
And it looks like you have a dilemma. Do this 'heatgun' method, and risk the warranty, so that you can't send it in. Or, send it in, but risk getting a refurb'd Ps3 or a non-60GB one.

Oh wait- so you didn't put Thermal Paste on it.. alright.
But for future reference, if you get more brave with hardware and such, if you had put Thermal Paste on your Ps3's processor like... once a year, theory has it that it makes it last a lot longer.

I did it on mine last year and the paste it had was completely dry, so I hope the new one helps avoid ylod. I'll replace it again later this year.
