No offense to you, but the way you worded things in the beginning sounded like you're saying independent countries who don't heed to the US are psychopaths that need to be controlled. It really all depends on who's in charge.

Now personally, I don't support the Iranian regime at all, due to the innocent deaths resulting because of the Sunni-Shi'ite feud, as well as the general heated tension between the two. I'd go into more detail, but frankly this isn't a subject I'd want to discuss on the internet, as not only is it too subjective, but it's also beyond the point of this thread. 

Also, Jihad doesn't necessarily translate to holy wars and stuff like that. That's just the result of Islamic extremists, and the media. In fact, it is stated in the Qur'an that there is no compulsion in religion, and that we should only fight those who attack our religion as a result of intolerance. To quote it: (Fight in the cause of Allah those who fight you, but do not transgress limits; for Allah loves not transgressors)(Al-Baqarah 2:190).
