A big part of the problem is that many people don't understand the difference between units sold to retail and units sold to consumers. They assume that companies will report the latter, when they report the former instead. For whatever reason, the people who bash VG Chartz for undertracking heavily don't seem to realize that no company is going to go to the trouble of tracking sales to consumers on their own when it's much easier (and more impressive) to report units sold to retailers.
Then too are the usual console-specific fans who refuse to believe that their favorite system is being outdone by another, and subsequently refuse to believe the numbers because they don't jive with what they want the numbers to be, but we find those sorts even here at VG Chartz...
