They didn't say Gears of War would be on NGP, but rather that a Gears of War-style game would work well on the system.  Basically, NGP can handle third person shooters.

And Gears of War is wholly owned by Epic Games.

They don't own it, they own parts of it, so they can stop Epic from porting the game to a competitor's console.

I don't want Sony out of the handheld market, but unfortunately the 3DS and Iphone will make sure it'll happen.
