the 'problem' many people have with the game was the fact that many people were almost led to believe that DS: Extraction was a full blown 3rd person 'true' DS game before it was officially announced.  Stories like this: http://kotaku.com/5145788/dead-space-wii-announced where Riccitiello promised that 'despite the technical limitations of the console, everything that made the 360/PS3/PC version so creepy will be there on the Wii'. What we didn't know was that didn't include the entire gameplay style of the original.

When it surfaced the game was a 'guided first person experience', many people, including myself, felt at least a little bit pissed off.  One also has to take into consideration that a similar event had occurred with RE:DC not long before.
