Eh, it depends on from which viewpoint you look at it (based on interests, etc.). For example, personally, I'm not a fan of Iranian theocracy either, and I'm in much agreement with your first reason as to why, but not with the second reason.
However, I will agree about the current protests being pretty encouraging for setting up a democratic state (hopefully).
