But then there is always option one should it not be feasible.

They aren't half a disc smaller though and most of the ones worth re-releasing fall into the larger category and upgrading the game would negate most if not all of the improved disk compression, as for multiple dvds it's an option but since Microsoft charges royalties for extra disks I can't see any third party taking the initiative and MS just doesn't have the library for it especially since they just closed a bunch of xbox original games servers so it'd have to be a single player games and they don't really have the devs to spare either
