The PSP Go was based off the case design of one of Sony's Ericsson phones, so it's not unreasonable for SCE to make the PSP2 using a similar case design as the PSP Phone prototypes seen so far. It makes more sense if anything to tie the product line designs together.
Not that speculation is important anyway as it's only a few more days before the official press release is out.
But if that's the actual design, I will be completely unsurprised.
