The Host is not really this year...for those who do not know the host is a korean monster film about a beast oin the Han River great film that is very humorous and emotional that is going to be remade into an american film shortly... hopefully they will give the film credit unlike the Departed which basically ripped Infernal Affairs and gave no credit(yes I know Scorseee had bought the rights to the movie but still he should have at least acknowledged the film he copied even shot for shot). However it is better than Typhoon from the previous year.
No Country for Old Men is a good film and also a very standard Coen film. It stays faithful to the McCarthy book and hopefully this means someone will do The Road which is his best book IMO. However the movie felt like I have seen it before mostly because of the Coen style.
The Best movie I have seen this year is "There Will Be Blood". this is solely because of Daniel Day Lewis. Who nailed the performance of a heartless person yet draws you into the film. it may be less violent than No Country For Old Men but it is much more tense. This film also lacks Humanity but does so with style thanks again to Daniel Day Lewis..This is first time in along time he actually did a good job. His performance in Gangs of New York put me to sleep like he phoned it in.
